Major Impacts

The telegraph revolutionized communication.

It was one of the first ways for people to communicate to far places within minutes. Before the telegraph, The Pony Express was the way to communicate from place to place, but it took months to get a response back.

Using the telegraph people could finally contact others and get an response within days or minutes rather than months.

The telegraph helped way more than just communication to family and friends. It saved lives, by communicating to medical physicians for help, It was a way to contact the government/military, if in need of assistance, and It was a way for the newspaper to find out of major events going on in other places in the world.

It didn’t just change the country, it changed the world. Using this new technology, people don’t have to wait near as long to get information as they did before the telegraph. Especially if it’s information from a different country. For example, if something happened in London, we would get the news late, old, and outdated. When the telegraph was invented we were able to send messages across the country and to different ones in a matter of minutes!!!

The telegraph caused a world of new beginnings for communication. Later the telephone, fax machine, and computer would be made for a more developed kind of communication.
